Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

Fitness is my passion and has been ever since I was little. I grew up watching my Dad train for marathons and triathlons and so I think fitness is just in my blood. I started gymnastics at the age of 3 and haven’t looked back since!

Why did you become a trainer?

I became a trainer to help people become fitter, healthier and happier. It’s an amazing feeling to help a person feel the sense of accomplishment when they reach a goal, whether it be getting off blood pressure medication, setting a new PR or getting their first pull up. It is both rewarding and fulfilling to be able to make a difference in the lives of others by helping them realize that they are capable of reaching any of their health and fitness goals!

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I originally got into working out when I played sports in high school. I met some awesome people at the gym and began strength training to compete. Strength sports led me to my wife who is a huge CrossFit athlete and now we share our passion for our sports.

Why did you become a trainer?

I honestly remember the first time I walked into the gym totally lost. No one offered help or tips and it took me years to figure things out on my own. I truly enjoy sharing what knowledge I have with others and helping them get to their goals.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I played every sport growing up, but I was almost too small to play high school football. In order to get bigger and get conditioned for the sport, I began lifting weights and reading training materials when I was 13 years old. Since then, I have been completely obsessed with the pursuit of strength and still push the limits of my mind and body in the gym. Although my team sport days are long behind me, I still compete at a high level in Powerlifting and MAS Wrestling.

Why did you become a trainer?

I began personal training in 2005 and immediately knew I wanted to be involved with training and coaching for the rest of my life. Since then, I’ve been a collegiate strength and conditioning coach, accrued tens of thousands of hours personal training, and had the opportunity to work with close to 100 NCAA All-Americans, 4 NCAA National Championship teams, and several dozen regionally and internationally ranked strength sport athletes.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Deadlifts. Nothing feels cooler than picking up heavy stuff.

What is your favorite cheat food?

I’ve never met a food that I couldn’t justify not eating. Except for pickled herring. Pickled herring tastes like the stuff of nightmares.

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

I’d say the Hulk for obvious strength reasons. But, Batman has better leverages for the power lifts. Yes. If Batman were on a better training program, anthropomorphically speaking, he has the potential to squat, bench, and deadlift more than the Hulk. I put way too much thought into this.

  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association
  • USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach
  • USA Powerlifting Club Coach

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

My fitness journey began when my parents enrolled me in a local YMCA gymnastic class at the age of 3 to help develop hand/eye coordination; the rest is history! I became an elite level gymnast and was able to compete at a high level in a sport I loved for 20 years (even obtaining a full, Division I Scholarship)! After retiring from a sport that defined who I was since I was 3, all of a sudden I felt a void. I tried to fill that void with running. I ran several full marathons and have ran over a dozen half marathons (to this day run the Va Beach 1/2 Marathon with my family every year), but something was still missing. My desire to compete and the adrenaline that goes along with such a desire was not being met. Then, in 2012, I found CrossFit and fell in love! I love the competitive feeling CrossFit gives me and the desire CrossFit gives me within myself to always be better, to always be fitter, to always be stronger, to always strive to improve a lift or time on a benchmark workout, to always push myself to my physical and mental limits, to always push others in their fitness/CrossFit journey, and to be a part of a Community of fitness. CrossFit provides me this!

Why did you become a trainer?

What is your “why”? Why are you on your fitness journey? Everyone’s answer to this question is different and varies from person to person. I became a trainer to help others achieve their “why”. I enjoy accompanying others on their fitness journey, facilitating their ability to reach their goals, pushing them to do things they never thought they were physically able to achieve, and helping them become a healthier version of themselves!

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Bar muscles ups and strict handstand push-ups (it’s the retired gymnast in me!)

What is your favorite cheat food?

Cake, especially ice cream cake!

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

My parents! They really are superheroes for raising 3 independent and successful children; sacrificing everything so we would want for nothing!

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I was going through a difficult time in my life and needed something solely for me.  A place I could meet new people, and a place I could start to develop new roots, new friends, and get the coaching I needed to get healthy again.  Once I walked through the doors, it was nothing but positive vibes, and great people, so I never looked back.  CrossFit is the best thing I have ever done for myself, and it completely changed my life.

Why did you become a trainer?

I took my Level 1 because I wanted to be a better athlete, I started out assisting the head coach, and my love to help others quickly transformed me into a full time trainer.  I love being able to help others achieve their goals, and help them see their potential.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

Anything with a barbell, particularly overhead, so probably Jerks, or Clean and Jerks, or Snatches…. so yeah Oly lifts!

What is your favorite cheat food?

Do I have to pick one?!  I always say that no matter how “paelo” I might choose to eat, I’ll never pass up a good slice of pizza, or a burger on a really “worth it” bun!

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

My husband and I have both been crowned by our kids as Wonder Woman and Superman.  She has great hair, and she’s pretty bad ass, so i am totally good with that!
